1) Describe your aspiration for our health care.

After being in the health care field as a CNA for several years I find that my aspiration for health care would be appropriate resources and extensive patient education. Many times patients understand what can be done to improve their health or maintain it, however they lack the motivation or ambition to act. Connecting patients with resources that may increase their ability to follow-through with goals on their health may be greatly beneficial for such patients.

2) To be healthy, what do patientʻs need?

I have a friend who constantly complains about bills and not having any money to put to her savings. This same friend eats out almost 3-4 times a week, has a significant car note, pays for that same car to be detailed nearly every month and purchases expensive clothing frequently. Yet still she doesn’t seem to understand why shes living from paycheck to paycheck and unable to save.

I share this because I see this same exact pattern in so many patients. Elevated BMI, diabetic, frequently amputating limbs, and can’t seem to understand why their health isn’t getting any better. These same patients have poor diet, don’t exercise, and have no desire for improvement in those lifestyle habits. I know that there are many variables in why a patient may have poor health (genetics, diseases, socio-economic status, etc), yet I’ve witnessed many of these issues to be self-inflicted & I strongly feel that patient’s need health care providers to not only point them in right direction but to provide resources that will keep such patients on the right path in maintaining their goals. Patients need education on their health and lifestyle choices that affect their health. They also need resources that will help them to develop better lifestyle habits and actually help them to improve their quality of life.

3) What would be your unique prescription to keep patients healthy?

Not unique but simple. Mandatory daily exercise which includes being outdoors along with intermittent and/or extended fasting. Many health issues stem from poor diet and exercise. Daily exercise and fasting would in my opinion be greatly beneficial for almost any patient.

4) How would you transform the clinic waiting room?

From personal experience clinic waiting rooms tend to be extremely crowded. I would mainly want the room to be spacious. I would also want an educational pamphlet to be given to patients upon arrival to read as they wait. Even simplified case studies so that patients may be reinforced to understand the impact of making certain health choices.
