Discuss the basic principles of data interpretation including the validity and reliability of the data used to translate research outcomes into practice. What are common barriers to translating research outcomes into practice? Analyze the importance of critically appraising the research findings. Describe any barriers you may anticipate as you plan to translate the results of your own Nursing Research project into practice. Base all responses to the information listed below. Nursing Research Project: Observable and Measurable increase in Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) rates in postpartum moms
Problem Statement: It is not known if or to what degree the implementation of principles related to the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative would impact exclusive breastfeeding rates at two weeks postpartum when compared to current practice among expectant mothers in a maternity clinic in rural South Carolina over four weeks.Â
Methodology and Design: Â Quasi – experimental design/Quantitative methodology
Purpose Statement: The purpose of this quantitative, quasi-experimental project is to determine if or to what degree the implementation of principles related to the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative would impact exclusive breastfeeding rates at two weeks postpartum when compared to current practice among expectant mothers in a maternity clinic in rural South Carolina over (4 week period)
Data Collection Approach:Â Archival data over last six months of pregnant moms at clinic who breastfed, as compared to current data over a 4-weeks’ time period post intervention of designated population of moms that delivered through clinic—did breastfeeding increase, decrease, or show no change
Data Analysis Approach: A descriptive narrative of post observation of pregnant moms at 4-week checkup, including statistical analysis in percentage of moms who breastfed versus those who did not as compared to archival clinic breastfeeding data
Sample (and Location):
Â
Location: Rural clinic, South Carolina
Population postpartum nurses
Sample Size: 30 clinic participant postpartum moms who meet designated criteria and are available over a 4-week period
Inclusion Criteria: Postpartum mothers
Exclusion Criteria: Non-pregnant mothers; mothers under 18y;practitioner order no breastfeeding
Variables and Level of Measurement:
Independent Variable (Intervention): Breastfeeding initiation postpartum within 1-hour, prior EBF information,
Dependent Variable: no breastfeeding initiation postpartum, no prior EBF information Â
