Your patient is currently ventilated with the following settings: SIMV with volume ventilation, TV 700 ml, Rate = 14, FiO2 = 50%. While performing a dressing change the RN notices the patient showing the following symptoms: high pressure alarm, increased effort with each breath, increased agitation. The RN repositions the patient, successfully suctions a small amount of clear sputum and resets the high-pressure alarm several times. The patient shows no change and the high pressure alarm continues to sound, what should be the RN’s next action?
