Team work is essential in healthcare. I work in critical care, I feel the best example of team work is when we come together during a code situation. Codes run the most smoothly when every person knows their defined roll and there is enough people and not extra people. There needs to be a defined team leader, someone that does the emergency drugs, someone to protect the airway and someone that is able to do chest compressions. It is nice when there is an extra person that is available to switch out with the chest compressor because this job is exhausting and we need to provide our patients with effective chest compressions to have the best outcome for our patients. Last week we had a code and it went very smoothly, everyone had their defined rolls and the we got a pulse back on the patient and she is still alive today. This is the best outcome that can happen and I actually help boost her up in the bed today so she could have breakfast. Unfortunately this is rare but it was a good week and great team work was done that day!
