You are scheduling a week’s wYou are scheduling a week’s worth of nurses traveling from outside of the area to supplement the staffing at a hospital. Because they are coming from out of town, they need to be scheduled on consecutive days. These particular nurses are for the night shift only, so we don’t have to worry about shift by shift assignements, just the nights of the week that they will work. Each nurse works 10 hour shifts on four consecutive days and then travels back home. If a nurse starts on Friday, they work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. In the spreadsheet you can see the expected demand for nurses each day of the week (regardless of when they started their four day block). Nurses whose 4 day block includes a Friday night or Saturday night get paid an additional salary. This is reflected in the cost column which shows the total cost for a nurse based on when their 4 day block begins. Find an allocation of nurses starting on each day of the week which will satisfy the demand for nurses at the minimal cost. orth of nurses traveling from outside of the area to supplement the staffing
