Conducting psychotherapy is a skill and an art that must be learned by nurses transitioning from registered nurse to advanced practice registered nurses as they are accustomed to “taking care of people, being action-oriented, wanting to rescue patients by making them feel better” and helping the patient feel better is not the main goal of psychotherapy when in fact in psychotherapy attempts of “improving symptoms” may even be counterproductive to the therapeutic process.
