A 65-year-old female patient was started on the drug furosemide 40mg q.d. for fluid volume overload. She was non-diabetic. Her renal function and serum electrolytes were normal before starting the drug. Although she became euvolemic within a few days, she developed involuntary rigid painful muscle contraction over hands and feet (carpopedal spasm).
