You are practicing in a primary care office. You are seeing a 50-year-old Caucasian, obese (BMI 32) gentleman for a check up. He is not in acute distress. He has had two consecutive blood pressure readings (at two separate visits) of 148/92 and 153/87. Today his blood pressure reading is 158/94. Past medical history is otherwise unremarkable with no other comorbid conditions. He is a current 1/2 pack per day smoker. Please respond to the following questions. 1. Based on the current guidelines, what stage of hypertension does this patient have? 2.
