of the 5,000 newly diagnosed AF patients, multiple factors were associated with delayed initiation of OAC treatment. Half of the patients were treated with OACs within five days of an AF diagnosis. In the study, women treated with OACs had a greater delay compared to men, even though women have a greater risk for stroke when it comes to an AF diagnosis. Along with delayed treatment for women, comorbidities were associated with a greater delay in OAC treatment. Comorbidities included CKD, malignancy, and pulmonary disease, which caused significant delay due to concerns for bleeding. paraphrase
