According to Khurshid et al. (2017), Research shows that prescribed anticoagulation for AF patients can be delayed, missed, nor underutilized in primary and acute care setting. It has been reported that OACs have been underutilized in AF patients for stroke prevention. Research shows that OAC should be prescribed to patients with moderate to high stroke risks, which includes majority of AF patients. Despite the recommendations for moderate to high stroke risk patients with AF, evidence shows that up to 50% of patients who have an indication for OACs do not receive it in time, if at all. paraphrase
