Patient calls the office and indicates their insurance carrier will not cover the previous visit for the date of service listed on the claim as it was prior to the effective date of her insurance and asks that the date be changed to include a date during which her insurance was valid. What would be the appropriate action by the staff? Change the DOS to another one listed in the record. Inform the patient that the practice cannot change the diagnosis; however, the practice would be happy to forward a copy of the claim to their home for whatever modifications the patient feels are necessary. Ask physician to change DOS according to the patient’s request. Review the record to determine if the appropriate DOS was submitted. If so, inform patient the DOS must remain unchanged.
