Patient #GI-26I1: Isabella is a 26-year-old graduate student working on her Ph.D. For as long as she can remember she has always had a “sensitive stomach.” Lately, her stomach issues have been more frequent and have been interrupting her studies. Isabella made an appointment with her primary care physician (PCP). She told her PCP about her abdominal issues such as bloating, gas, constipation, and at times, diarrhea. She also explained that she can tell a difference when she eats certain foods such as bread and pasta as well as dried fruits. Her PCP worried that she may have a gastrointestinal issue but wanted to run a couple tests before giving her a colonoscopy. She was later tested for celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease, both tests returned negative results.
