During the 2016 election, Donald Trump won conservative support by promising that he would if elected, nominate ‘pro-life’ justices to the U.S Supreme Court. Whether President Trump makes good on his campaign promise to restrict abortion rights or not, it may come down to the competing impulses of the chief justice, John Roberts. On the other hand, he is basically a social conservative who has voted to protect state regulations that limit when and how women can terminate their pregnancies (Fox, 2020). President Trump was the first sitting president to address the March for Life via satellite and his Vice, Mike Pence, was the first Vice president to do so in person, in 2017. Today the Department of Health and Human Services is announcing a proposal to revise its conscience regulations to protect President Trump’s promise to enforce Federal conscience and religious freedom protections. (The White House, 2018).
During the State of the Union address at the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C., on March 1, 2022, President Joe Biden said in his speech that Roe v. Wade is under attack as never before and if we want to go forward and not backward, we must protect access to health care. Preserve a woman’s right to choose. President Biden is hesitant to discuss abortion and some abortion-rights advocates say it’s likely due to the stigma that surrounds it and a politically tricky issue. This is still a priority issue for voters (Abrams,2022).
This is what I would have done differently. I will have a discussion with the activist, religious leaders, politicians, and healthcare professionals and let the healthcare professionals educate everyone on the effects of abortion, pros, and cons, and anyone can make their own decision based on knowledge and not impulse or pressure. A woman’s life is the most important issue, if pregnancy is going to cause a woman to lose her life, then all must be done to preserve the life of both mother and baby if it is healthy.
