Write a 700- to 1,050-word essay analyzing a selected work of literature from the section in Texts and Contexts Chapter 4 entitled “Practicing Reader-Response Criticism” (pp. 149-153). The literary works to choose from include two options: “Since There’s No Help†by Michael Drayton, or “Killing the Bear†by Judith Minty.
- Use your education and experience to inform your reading of the specific work. Interpret the work through the lens of your own experience. This means your response will be subjective and will likely use first person.
- Use examples (quotes & details) from the selected literary work (primary source) to demonstrate what you have determined to be the theme of the work.
- Use at least two academic or peer-reviewed secondary sources to support your thesis (i.e course textbook, course materials, UOP Library e-books or database articles).
Organize your paper using a traditional essay format with a clear introductory paragraph, body paragraphs based on discussion points, and a conclusion paragraph.
