During this brief summer session, we are going to take an extended look at the topic of freedom of speech. Earlier this week, you evaluated several hypothetical situations and made judgments regarding the role of the government in limiting speech in those situations. This discussion builds on that idea and includes three parts:
1. Describe why you think the freedom of speech is an important right and why it is particularly important in a democracy, where people choose their political leaders.
2. Describe one issue or situation that has surfaced during the past few years (besides the riot on January 6) that has tested our ideas about freedom of speech or the First Amendment.
3. Describe a situation in your life when you exercised your freedom of speech.
Please keep your overall response to 10 sentences and be sure to proofread and use your own words.
