Dr. Falk and Dr. Keller operate a family medical practice. Dr, Falk had a patient that he described as “old World” and the man owned a very successful farm outside town. The man is Dr. Falk’s age so he knows the man since High School. He tells Dr. Keller that the man is a wonderful person but he knows that he struggled to get through High School, having to attend night classes for a period of time in order to get his High School diploma.
Dr. Falk is very distraught because he saw the man last night at the hospital because his wife became very ill and since he was on-call he saw her. Dr. Falk tells Dr. Keller that he is concerned that the man does not understand what the physician is telling him about hiss wife’s poor health. Since the man is a healthcare surrogate for his wife, Dr. Falk feels that the situation will only get worse.
