Changing an organization’s culture is one of the most difficult challenges faced by a leader; probably because an organization’s culture comprises an interlocking set of goals, roles, processes, values, communications practices, attitudes and assumptions. To create a cultural change, it is important to clearly and concisely address what the change is going to be, and all the details involved. All staff members at all levels must be encouraged to participate in this change, while making sure that all understand why the change needed. Developing a trusting relationship with staff members, will make it easier to accomplish the set goals. When staff trust you, they believe what you say. When you have someone’s trust, they value your experience and judgment and will seek out your opinion. Creating a culture that allows for new ways of knowing takes a unique set of leadership skills.
When implementing a change, as a leader, how can one make a “culture of change” within the respective department/organization?
