A 41-year-old Caucasian female, Sarah has been admitted for a gastroscopy. She is having this procedure as part of investigations to determine if she has Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD). Sarah’s symptoms include:
Upper abdominal discomfort, which is worse at night
Nausea
Regurgitation of small amounts of food
Chipping and discolouration to her front teeth are noted as well as a cavity in her left molar.
An examination revealed the following:
Body Mass Index (BMI) of 35
Blood Glucose Level – 6mmol/L
Diet high in fat and sugar, low in fruit and vegetables
No exercise each week
High alcohol intake
