Brenda Buckeye is an obese (BMI is 36) 55-year-old woman who presents to your office for preventive care. She reports that she has been very thirsty during the day and reports frequent nocturnal urination. The patient admits to a sedentary life style which led to a weight gain of 25 pounds within the past 2 years, and occasional fatigue and headache. BP 164/92 mmHg, P 90, R 20, T 98.6 F. Fasting blood sugar 148 mg/dL, HbA1c 8.1%, LDL-cholesterol 250 mg/dL, HDL-cholesterol 30 mg/dL, and triglycerides 252 mg/dL. CBC with diff and rest of BMP are WNL.
The patient was previously diagnosed with hypertension is taking HCTZ 25 mg daily. She has been compliant with her medication. Home BPs range from 140/88 to 168/96. She reports that she has not limited salt or saturated fat intake with her diet.
