A 49 year old patient has a fall and wakes up feeing ‘off’. He is admitted to the emergency department. Several clinical indicators of deterioration occur over a period of time whilst admitted:
– Nausea and vomiting
– Amnesia (can’t remember details of the fall)
– Becomes slower in responding than on previous occasions
– Slurred voice
– Headache
– Deterioration in GCS of 2 points (from 15 to 12)
– Weakness in his right foot
– Left pupil is dilated and sluggish in response to the right eye
Head CT results indicate a left frontotemporal subdural haematoma and haemorragic contusion.
What is the pathophysiology related with a Traumatic Brain Injury with the above clinical manifestations.
