Primary problem (medical diagnosis) of patient:
Maya Adriano is an 8-year-old girl who fractured her left lower portion of the femur when she fell off her new two-wheeler bicycle on her birthday. She had immediate severe pain, and swelling. The CT scan indicated a displaced fracture in the lower half of the femur, but the epiphyseal plate was not involved. She has been placed in Buck’s skin traction for reduction of the femur and pain relief for the next 48 hours. After the 48 hours, a closed surgical reduction and casting of the leg is planned. Maya’s parents are at the bedside. Maya’s mother is upset that the child’s father got her the bike for her birthday and does not want Maya to ride it after she has healed and the cast is removed. Parents are arguing about the bike when the RN walks in.
RN’s assessment reveals:
Well nourished school-aged girl, moist mucous membranes, complaining of pain 6/10 on faces scale. Interactive, talkative. Appropriate for age.
