In my practice, we have a set server, and there is no chance of the higher-ups changing the system. I have learned that there are different types of plans, and each method works differently. There is no right or wrong system if you have a good firewall to keep hackers out and a sound backup system. There also needs to be a good hard drive to store everything.  I like the EPIC system because I have learned how it functions and communicates with other hospitals and doctor’s offices. “EPIC gives patients and doctors tools to get healthier by giving the opportunity of Telehealth” (Software Connect, 2022, p. 1). Again, it does not matter what system you have if you have all the right components to the system that you need.  Every office thinks they have the right computer system, and they may be right. Who is to tell them they are wrong until something goes wrong and there is nothing to fix it but a new computer system.
Then there is all the investigation of the best fit for your office, how much it will cost, how much training it will take, and whether it is user-friendly. Then you must talk to the office manager to ensure you can afford this. Then put your plan into place. Make sure the training sessions are planned. Help ensure everyone’s learning style is considered so everyone can learn at the same rate. There are so many factors to think about for one computer system, and you never thought about it before until it was you who had to do the work for your employees. You want something easy to learn but a robust enough system to keep the hackers out. You need to train your employees on what to watch for if hackers try to gain access to your system, how to recognize the clues that someone is trying to get information from you and how to report it. Whatever computer system you choose, make sure you have all the components you need and make sure it is user-friendly and able to communicate with other hospitals and doctor’s offices so information can be transferred back and forth. If your patient forgets something, the information is at your fingertips, and you do not have to worry about them forgetting.
