The workflow above represents the updated process. Items in blue are Epic, yellow are physical tasks, and CensiTrac are colored green. Surgery is scheduled in Epic sometime before the day of surgery. The day before surgery, the sterile processing department (SPD) prints a case card from Epic which lists the required instruments and disposable items. SPD gathers an empty case cart for storage, then gathers the disposable items and places the cart in the sterile supply room. When it is placed in the supply room, the barcode from the case card is scanned to the case cart in CensiTrac. The OR staff finish readying the case cart for surgery.
. Consider the following:
Does each draft use standard workflow shapes for start and end points, basic steps, and decision points?
Are all points connected with arrows flowing in the correct direction?
Are swimlanes present to identify who completes each task?
Carefully read through each workflow model.
Does it make sense?
What areas are unclear or confusing?
Are all decision points adequately explained?
What parts need additional detail?
Identify at least one additional gap in each workflow. For example, this may be a redundant task, an unnecessary task, an ineffective system or process, or an area where staff need support. What meaningful use objective or objectives are related to the identified gap?

Question: Give a review of this future-state workflow drafts. Identify any basic requirements (standard workflow shapes, arrow directions, decision points, swimlanes, etc.) that could be improved. Comment on the workflow recommendations that are strong and suggest ways to make them even better, if possible. Also identify any areas that may need more information and what additional detail is necessary to clarify those areas. Describe the gap you identified in the workflow and explain how it is related to at least one meaningful use objective.
