Assess the leadership, culture, and values of a business or organization of your choosing (For this, I am choosing Kaiser Permanente). Ensure you have access to an employee of the business or organization because you will interview them as part of this assignment. You may use a variety of resources: websites, news articles, Better Business Bureau, annual reports, etc.Â
The Basics:
What is the name of the business or organization?
How long has it been in existence?
What is the mission or purpose?
What products and/or services are provided?
Who are the customers the business or organization targets?
How many employees and what type of educational or experience background do they have?
The Leadership:
Who are the leaders and what is their background?
How long have these leaders been with the company?
What decisions have the leaders made, which have impacted the company positively and/or negatively?
How do the employees feel about the leadership?
The Teams:
What types of teams does this organization have?
Which employee roles are a part of each team?
What is the team’s mission or focus?
How often do the teams meet?
How many employees are on the teams?
What have the teams accomplished?
The Values:
What are the organization’s formal or stated values? (These can usually be found on the organization’s website)
How does the organization value its employees? Rewards, recognition, raises, promotions, etc.
How important are formal work rules and procedures?
What are the “unwritten rules” by which the company operates?
Have the employee rate the following values from 1 to 5.Â
1. The company does not hold this value
2. The company somewhat holds this value
3. The company appropriately holds this value
4. The company somewhat strongly holds this value
5. The company very strongly holds this value

The Culture:
What myths and stories are told about the organization?
What are the key symbols, logos, or emblems?
Does the organization hold special dinners, recurring meetings, specific events, etc.?
Do employees use company jargon, abbreviations or specific language? Example: at Pali Institute, there are “ProCords” and “SasCords,” which stands for Program Coordinator and Student and Staff Coordinator.
Are the organization’s stated values in alignment with its work culture? If the answer is no, then why not and what do you believe the leaders of the organization can do to remedy this? Â Â
Conclusion:
Discuss things you like and dislike about this organization. If you were the leader, what would you change? What would you keep or enhance?
