47-year-old female comes to the ED after slipping and falling last night walking down some stairs. She fell with her knuckles down on the stairs and they have been quite painful since. She has noticed swelling and bruising over the right hand. Vital signs are normal. Pain is currently 5 out of 10. On exam, there is a great deal of swelling to the regional of the 4th and 5th metacarpal on the right hand. X-ray shows fracture of 5th metacarpal, with a small amount of displacement. Patient is placed in short arm spica cast by nurse. Assessment:Fracture 5th metacarpal bone Assign ICD-10-CM code(s) for ED physician services.
