A small hospital organization runs an emergency department (ED), a separate ED Boarding area, and two hospital units (H1 and H2. Every day, 30 patients arrive to ED seeking care, and 80% are sent home after spending 0.3 days in an ED bed. The remaining 20% are admitted to one of the two hospital units after spending an extra half a day in the ED Boarding Unit (waiting to get admitted). Hospital Unit 1, besides taking 40% of the admitted ED patients, also directly admits 3 new patients every day. This unit has a LOS of 5.1 days. Similarly, Hospital Unit 2 gets 60% of the patients transferred from ED, as well as 6 new patients per day, and has a LOS of 3.2 days. Each hospital unit houses 35 beds.
