A nurse researcher is studying the benefits of therapeutic touch in the alleviation of chronic arthritic pain. He enrolls a number of interested volunteers who receive a series of therapeutic touch sessions. Using a standard validated pain measurement tool, he then compares reported levels of pain (before and after treatment) between this group and patients receiving standard treatments in the arthritis clinic. There was a significant reduction in pain scores in people who had therapeutic touch.
