SOLVED2002
A 32-year-old man presents for an evaluation. He was diagnosed with major depressive disorder at the age of 21 when he presented with a depressed mood, a lack of interest in activity, insomnia, guilt, poor concentration, and suicidality. On diagnosis, he was initiated on fluoxetine and eventually titrated to maximum recommended dosage, which was partially effective after three months of treatment. After the addition of quetiapine, the major depressive episode ended after another three months of titrating quetiapine treatment. He was maintained on those medications for another year before they were discontinued. Five months ago, he again developed a major depressive episode for which he was again treated with fluoxetine and quetiapine. He has been free of all symptoms and back to baseline for the past one month. What is the most appropriate management for this patient?
