It’s sad to see that individuals with lower socioeconomic status develop severe health conditions and it’s even more difficult for them to get the right medical care at an affordable price. Even more upsetting, some physicians see low SES patients as irresponsible, unintelligent, irrational, unreliable and therefore, and unlikely to follow up with appointments and carryover with medical advice (Arpey et al., 2017). It is proven that individuals with lower SES receive less diagnostic testing, medication, and have limited access to health care as they simply cannot afford it (Arpey et al., 2017). On the other hand, some physicians are adapting to low SES patients allowing patients a chance to become compliant with their health conditions (Arpey et al., 2017). Overall, socioeconomic status does influence healthcare opportunities for patients.
