Revise: Aside from race, color, religion, sex, or national origin or even age, there is a lot of discrimination against patients that are addicts. There is still this stigma that I have unfortunately witnessed in the health care setting where health care providers have not treated patients who are addicted to opiods or alcohol, the same as other patients. Patients come to hospitals for help and treatment. If they are refusing treatment, that is another situation. Otherwise I believe it is also important to treat these patients the same as all other patients. Addiction does not discriminate, and it is importnat to remember that these people are somebody’s someone, whether it be a son or daughter, mother or uncle, I have always believed in the practice of treating others as you want to be treated or as you would treat your loved ones. You never know what a person has been through or how they ended up in a situation that eventually led to addiction.
