PO trials in the clinical swallowing evaluation included: Ice chips x 3 Thin liquids: Tspn x 2, Cup x 2 Mildly thick liquids: Tspn x 2, Cup x 4 Pureed solids: x 3 Pt not successful with straw sips of thin or mildly thick liquids SLP deferred chewable solids Oral phase findings included: Slow/prolonged Difficulty extracting food/liquid from spoon. Unable to extract liquid from straw Required max assist feeding with spoon, cup, and straw. Moderate anterior loss of all consistencies bilaterally Mild oral cavity residue on R side after purees was cleared with Yankauer suction. Other signs of dysphagia noted: Laryngeal elevation present but slow and sluggish Immediate coughing following thin liquids Delayed cough following mildly thick liquids No cough appreciated with purees O2 sats stable at 100% throughout Pt symptoms: Unable to confirm/deny sensation of aspiration, pharyngeal residue, or odynophagia due to cognitive-linguistic deficit.
