This is Darlene. Darlene is a 76 year old woman who lives on her own in a retirement apartment complex for 55 year olds and over. She was admitted this morning and diagnosed with shingles. The shingles are present from her pubis to her sternum and wrap 180 degrees around her torso. She stated that she has had these for about 4 or 5 days, and she rates her pain a 8 out of 10. She did not notify her PCP, she does not have a PCP but uses walk in clinics, due to a lack of money “I am on a budget”. She has a history of Anxiety, COPD, CHF she has a 55 year pack a day smoking history and claims she recently has quit smoking (family reports she has not quit). Other than the skin on her torso, there is no evidence of any skin breakdown. She is a widow since the age of 50, and has four adult children – two of which live in the area. She has had a low grade fever, denies shortness of breath, but has diminished lung sounds, + 2 pitting edema on the lower extremities. Normal heart sounds, GI findings
