Sandy’s sister died of suicide a year ago after she jumped off a bridge. For about six months she was very sad and cried often. She attended a grief support group in which she found little comfort. She blamed herself for not preventing her sister’s death. Since then, Sandy has had many nightmares that she is witnessing the death of her sister and waking up in a cold sweat. She quit her job which required her to cross the bridge in order to drive there. She now refuses to cross any bridge and gets nervous even discussing it. She is determined to never cross a bridge again. She carries a lot of guilt regarding the death of her sister and feels that if she had called her that morning, she may not have killed herself. She often finds herself irritable with those around her and is easily startled by loud noises. She is in school to be a PCA at the hospital, but she has trouble focusing on her schoolwork. She is sad all of the time and no longer wants to do anything for fun like she used to.
