An ethical dilemma that I have noticed in my nursing practice is the confidentiality of the patient or the privacy of the patient and patient safety. The main reason for this issue in the veteran’s hospital I work in is because of the semi-private rooms that our veterans must occupy with other veterans. I thought semi-private rooms were a little bit outdated and the fact that it doesn’t provide all the privacy for the patients in them. I know that some can give their consent, but others are confused, and can’t rightly give their consent. All the rooms are not semi-private, but on my floor, 3 rooms are. I noticed that there are more on the other Med Surg floors. The hospital I work in was built in the 40s, so it is a very old hospital. The rooms are tiny, and with two beds in there, occupied by two people and their stuff, it makes the room even smaller. There is a curtain that separates the patients from each other, but they can still hear a doctor talking to the patient in the next bed.
