An unwanted or unpredictable reaction to a medication. This type of reaction can range from mild to severe to life threating. Some examples of an adverse reaction may include heart attack, anaphylaxis, hives, impaired hearing and or vision and kidney damage. Some nursing interventions for this type of reaction would be to stop the medication right away, give an antihistamine to help with itching or a rash, and administer epi to help with the anaphylaxis. You can also administer steroids to help with any inflammation.
