the patient is status post trauma he sustained multiple injuries to include a right tibial plateau fracture that was fixed three weeks ago he now has a purulence exuding from the middle aspect of his incision. After discussing the risks, benefits, and alternatives with the patient and family, it was determined that operative intervention with incision and drainage with cultures would be appropriate. Procedure: after obtaining informed consent from the patient, identifying the patient in the operative site, the patient was taken to the operating suite. Anesthesia was administered. A non sterile bumper was placed under the patients right hip. No torniquet was used. The patients right lower extremity was then prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion. An incision was made into the knee joint following his previous in session in a curvilinear fashion, progressing over the lateral joint line. This was carried sharply through the skin. At this time, superficial cultures were taken off the gross purulence that was present. Blunt dissection was carried down to the
