He was getting better until he developed a blood clot in his leg because the doctor forgot to give him medication to prevent this from happening, which caused his stay to be longer than it needed to be. The ethical concern is whether or not to tell the patient. My stance is to tell the patient and hold the hospital accountable. In my case today, a 64-year-old man came to the hospital complaining about breathing issues. The client has a seizure disorder, hypertension, and COPD. He was being treated for his symptoms and appeared to be getting better. However, on the third day of his stay, he started experiencing pain in his left leg. After testing, he was diagnosed with a blood clot (DVT). This happened because the doctor did not prescribe blood thinners, which are needed when patients are confined to their beds to prevent blood clots from forming.
