A 45 year old male presented to the emergency department complaining of fever and constant pain in his anal area. The ED physician examined the patient and immediately visualized A fluctuant, tender mass in the anal canal just past the anal orifice. The patient was also found to have high fever with hypotension and tachycardia. The ED physician diagnosed the patient with sepsis and a perianal Abscess. The patient was started on intravenous fluids and antibiotics and was taken to the operating room for incision and drainage of the Abscess. And the operating room, the surgeon made an incision in the mucosa of the anal canal over lining the tender mass and purulent drainage immediately resulted from the incised Abscess cavity. Cultures were obtained, which came later back positive for B. fragilis, and anaerobic gram negative bacterium. The abscess cavity was irrigated with sterile saline and left open to drain and heal the patient was kept in the hospital for several days for continued administration of antibiotics and fluids and monitoring of his condition. At discharge his diagnosis was B. fragilis sepsis due to perianal Abscess. What is the Root Operation?
