Another U.S. based not-for-profit, nonpartisan, membership-based organization that works to catalyze improvements in healthcare is the National Quality Forum. Their goal is to enhance healthcare by measuring standards while making patient care safer and producing better outcomes. Although the U.S. has many different organizations that measure the quality of healthcare, I believe that until the concerns and contributions of the patients are considered, it will be difficult to obtain optimal CQI. Furthermore, it is the provider’s responsibility to provide appropriate information which would allow the patient to understand their professional point of view. This will not only give the patient an opportunity to make an informed judgement but can create a platform so that the two may collaborate on a plan that can produce an optimum result. Until then, weight loss patients should focus on the long-term effects of weight loss medication and the benefits of implementing a program that informs, teaches, and maintain goals achieved naturally.
