Review the facility and the ANA Decision Tree for Delegation.  Did you delegate as a team leader with staff or other departments? If so include the process of delegation.

This was a level 4 NICU. The preceptor delegated to myself, nurse techs, parents, and respiratory therapists. This was done on a skill set basis and what was in their scope of practice. She would ask respiratory therapists to do cares with us if it was safer for them to be present. She would ask aids to set up for a new admission, get supplies from the supply room, and run labs to be processed. 

 

Did the facility follow the Delegation standards? Talk about in week 3, ask them if they have a delegation process? Did you see it followed in during the clinical?

The facility did follow their delegation process and very strictly. The NICU is very focused on skill sets and everyone has different sets. It is imperative that you are making sure the person is qualified to delegate to, has been delegated this skill before, and feels comfortable completing the task.

 

Analyze the appropriateness of the delivery model used by this facility – How is it supposed to work? Does it/is it working for your unit? 

The delivery model of primary care nursing is supposed to work by………

 

It does work for this unit as it allows an RN with a specific skill set to be assigned to the primary patient and use a collaborative approach to have the assistance of other nurses and staff when needed.
