The LPN/LVN is reviewing a patient’s medications during a visit to the community clinic. The LPN/LVN notices that one prescribed medication for allergies was refilled 2 years prior. The patient states that the medication is not often needed. Which explanation would be most important for the LPN/LVN to give the patient about this medication? The medication has likely lost its potency. Better medications are probably available. Prescribers are mandated to rewrite prescriptions yearly. Drugs are no longer refillable after a certain period of time.
