This week’s assignments and readings have given me a taste of just how complex and all-encompassing a thorough assessment of your patient can and should be. It has also taught me that not every assessment needs to be completely thorough, depending on the context, your familiarity with your patient, and your current chief complaint. For instance, if you are seeing a new patient who you do not know and is complaining of vague symptoms without a clear explanation, it would likely be worth conducting a thorough and complete assessment to investigate for any potential underlying causes.
