When discussing delegation within nursing practice, it is important to understand competency and how it is determined for the nursing specialty area. Competency is an ongoing process; it is the ability to integrate knowledge, skills, and judgment to practice safely and ethically in a designated role.
1.What are the challenges of delegating tasks to an unlicensed care provider? Name and discuss at least three challenges.
2. When delegating tasks discuss potential patient safety issues or risks that may be related to the task considered for delegation? Name and discuss at least two safety issues or risks.
3.What is the nurses’ responsibility when delegating tasks to these providers? Identify and Discuss two responsibilities.
4. Student must respond to one other peer’s Discussion Board response.
Please use evidence to support your responses. What does this mean?
Remember to use the literature to support your responses- see guidelines for incorporating citations/support below.
What does this mean? (Peer Reviewed)
Ensure to use evidence to support your Discussion. What does this mean?
Use at least five references (in total, not for each response to these individual questions above) from peer reviewed professional journals (see explanation below on this term) or sources to support your positions or themes in your Discussion posted response. Use an additional reference/citation (a 6th) reference/citation) from a Professional Organization like the American Nurses Association (ANA) or another Professional Organization. Professional Organizations often publish “white papers” on their websites that discuss the organization’s positions on certain topics. Look for a white paper, and utilize what it says in your discussion response.

Sometimes researchers will use the umbrella term “Cite the literature” to support your responses or statements- this is another way to say use “peer reviewed or peer refereed” articles/journals.
How to recognize peer-reviewed (refereed) journals
Â
In many cases professors will require that students utilize articles from “peer-reviewed” journals. Sometimes the phrases “refereed journals” or “scholarly journals” are used to describe the same type of journals. But what are peer-reviewed (or refereed or scholarly) journal articles, and why do faculty require their use?
Three categories of information resources:
Newspapers and magazines containing news – Articles are written by reporters who may or may not be experts in the field of the article. Consequently, articles may contain incorrect information.
Journals containing articles written by academics and/or professionals — Although the articles are written by “experts,” any particular “expert” may have some ideas that are really “out there!”
Peer-reviewed (refereed or scholarly) journals – Articles are written by experts and are reviewed by several other experts in the field before the article is published in the journal in order to ensure the article’s quality. (The article is more likely to be scientifically valid, reach reasonable conclusions, etc.) In most cases the reviewers do not know who the author of the article is, so that the article succeeds or fails on its own merit, not the reputation of the expert.
If you are uncertain what qualifies as a peer reviewed journal/article, contact the librarian for help at Halle library.
