Mrs. Finn is a 40-year-old female that presents to the ER with complaints of vomiting and diarrhea for 4 days. She reports abdominal cramping, pins and needle sensations in her fingers and toes, muscle weakness, fatigue, and confusion. Her blood pressure is 90/ 70 mm Hg. Her hematocrit level is 0.75 L/L. 

 

Hematocrit (Hct) normal value for women is 0.37-0.47.

Higher Values: Dehydration, high altitudes, polycythemia

Lower Values: Anemia, bone marrow failure, hemorrhage, leukemia, overhydration
