Chapter 4:Â Sleep, Your Body, and Your Mind
Â
Hi, I’m Remy. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 6 months ago. I had been feeling really tired every day, even though I thought I was getting enough sleep, and there were a few times when I almost fell asleep while I was driving. I went to the doctor and at first, he wasn’t sure what was wrong but when I told him that my roommate says I snore really badly, so he arranged for me to get a sleep apnea testing kit to take home with me. Now I sleep every night with a CPAP machine. It’s a little weird to get used to, but it’s worth it to not feel so tired.

Untreated sleep apnea increases Remy’s risk for which physical problems? How might it affect his schoolwork?
Does Remy have obstructive sleep apnea or central sleep apnea? How can you tell? What is the difference between the two?
